The last woman to finish the 60-mile ‘fun run’ was Bev Abbs in 2012 and, considering this year’s event kicked off on International Women’s Day, it’s incredible to see Jasmin cross the finish line. John Kelly’s Barkley Marathons full interview on how the event panned out. Nursing mum Jasmin Paris’ overall record from 2019 still stands at just over 83 hours. The Barkley Marathons takes place every year in Frozen Head State Park near Wartburg, Tennessee. John became the 15th person to complete the Barkley in 2017 and this January 2020 he won the Montane Spine Race in just under 88 hours, creating a new men’s record. This was Jasmin’s first time tackling the infamously difficult Barkley Marathons. She crossed the finish line for a third time in 39hrs 49mins 56secs, making her the first woman in 10 years to complete the course inside the 40-hour cut off time. Ultrarunner Jasmin Paris has completed Barkley Marathons’s traditional ‘fun run’ in under 40 hours, comprising three loops of the tough 20-mile run.
